Book Review Recommendations

During the course of this year, you will need to read eight books outside of your regular classroom reading. Two of these books will be “Book Circles” books (more about these later). The other six books will be books that you select from the following five categories:  classic, contemporary, non-fiction, writers of color, and young adult (2).

Some categories may appeal to you, while others may stretch you as a reader (in other words, they aren’t the types of books you normally read). You may choose which books to read and when to read them. If you know you are going to be busy with sports one month, then read a book from the Young Adult Literature section. If, however, you know that you have plenty of time to read during a vacation, then pick something a bit more challenging.

The book reports are due eight times a year. Those dates are listed on your course schedule for each quarter. I will also write the due dates on the blackboard. Questions? Please call me, see me, or send me an email!

On the following links are lists of books that I have read -- and usually liked.  I have tried to offer recommendations in all five of the categories I ask you to read.  Please keep in mind that there are millions of books I have not read (sigh), so ask a parent, friend, teacher, or librarian to help you pick out books that will appeal to you!

Please click on the link below to get to a specific category.
