FAITH and MORALITY   Freshman Religion - Semester I

The student will be introduced to moral guidelines with emphasis on clarifying personal values, formation of conscience and personal decision making. The stages of moral development are explored in this process. Using the Ten Commandments as an outline, issues of morality will be discussed in light of Catholic teachings. These include but are not limited to marriage, sexuality, and the sanctity of life.

INTRODUCTION TO HEBREW SCRIPTURES/OLD TESTAMENT Freshman Religion - Semester II

The context and content of the Hebrew Scriptures will be studied with the goals of growing in understanding the covenant relationship between God and God’s people and recognizing the connection between the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures. The stories will serve as a guide to help the student examine her own faith experience.

SAINT of the DAY

Freshman Retreat:

A lovely Fall Day with its array of color served as a backdrop for the Freshman Retreat at St. Peter's Church in Mendota.
Led by the Senior Peer Ministry students the Freshman spent time participating in energetic Ice Breakers and Small  Group Discussion where they mixed and matched with new and old friends.  Senior Meghan Wenger graciously shared with the younger students about her own understanding of the Freshman Salesian virtues of KINDNESS, HONESTY, and GENTLE STRENGTH.  Kate Callahan, Coco Behne, Kelly Regan, and Nora Gilsen candidly offered memories of their initial experiences as 9th grade Visitation students relating fears, embarrassing moments, joys, and most of all the wisdom they acquired. These wise women encouraged their "younger sisters" to take risks in relationships, to reach out to each other, and to begin now to work for unity in their class   The day culminated in a beautiful candlelight prayer service with St. Paul's reading from I Corinthians 12 on the Body of Christ.  This passage, initially read at Freshman Orientation, encouraged Seniors and Freshman to share who they are in this world and graciously accept the gifts that  each person brings to the Body of Christ.
