The 2009 Visitation Volleyball Team
took first place in the 10th Annual Blazer Invitational Volleyball Tournament,
held at Visitation.
The championship was the first ever for the
home team at its own invitational. It
was also a significant accomplishment for the team because Visitation, a AA
school, defeated two AAA schools on its way to the championship.
Twelve teams competed in this
tournament, with pool play matches on Friday and championship matches on
Saturday. Visitation defeated, in
succession, Marshall School of Duluth (25-5, 25-11), Fairmont (27-25, 13-25, 15-9), Holy Family
Catholic (25-16, 15-25, 15-7), and Simley (25-23, 25-23)!
Many thanks to all the parent, and
student-athlete, volunteers who helped make this tournament a success. All the teams participating enjoyed a
competitive and fun atmosphere.
Special
thanks go to the coaching staff of Maria Steinhagen, Midge Hernandez, Lindsey
Schepers, and Joe Zimmerman for doing such a wonderful job with our
student-athletes, and for ensuring that the tournament ran smoothly, and to the
school maintenance staff for all the "behind the scenes" support it
provided.
