Mrs.
Miller’s third graders had the opportunity to work together with the “big kids” in Mr. Petschl’s Honors Chemistry class this week.
An experiment was conducted where students
explored chemical change and interaction. Students observed the changes involved
when combining solutions, recorded their observations, and drew conclusions.
Several
of the juniors go way back at Vis and they also had Mrs. Miller as their third grade teacher! One of those students, Kathleen Ferraro,
shares her thoughts:
"
The lab was
interesting, and it was made even more fun with the kids there to make their
own observations. My lab partner and I were paired up with a couple of boys in
the class, and it was great to see how excited they were about the lab, and
also the different things they noticed and thought were interesting. It seemed
like everyone had a good time--the kids because they got to participate in a
real chemistry experiment with the "big kids," and for us because it
was fun to change up the normal lab routine and work with the third graders. It
also brought back a lot of memories from my own lower school experience and how
much I enjoyed being able to work with the upper school students.
Overall, it was a fun and educational experience for all of us, and I think we
all enjoyed it."
