Literature, Composition, and Speech

This course continues study of various literary genres including short story, poetry, drama, novel, and nonfiction.  The focus of the writing program is literature-based and targets the fundamental concepts of developing the five-paragraph essay.  For one quarter, students learn key concepts of public speaking and prepare and deliver speeches for various purposes.  In addition, students will engage in significant grammar and vocabulary study.  Required for 10th grade students.
