Middle School Robotics Lead Mentor

Visitation School is seeking a Lead Mentor for our Middle School All-Girls’ FIRST® Robotics Competition team.  FIRST® is For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology and it’s about more than robots!   The Lead Mentor will lead all aspects of the robotics program and foster a learning environment that is empowering, joyful, and inclusive.  This role will report to the Director of Secondary Education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Visitation Mission to provide an excellent education within a Catholic environment, permeated by Salesian Spirituality and the living tradition of the Visitation Sisters;
  • Manage and supervise student behavior during team practices, meetings, and events;
  • Support students in designing, building and programming a robot;
  • Oversee all matters pertaining to the organization and administration of advising/coaching a co-curricular program, ensuring that students are meeting deadlines and staying on task;
  • Provide instruction and guidance to the students on the proper use of tools and equipment;
  • Plan and schedule seasonal activity in accordance with Visitation’s policies;
  • Collaborate with other coaches and mentors (2) to support the growth and success of the team.

Time Commitment

  • 4 hours/week (in-season)

Stipend Amount: $700.00

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Required
:

  • Experience in coaching or mentoring middle school students
  • Knowledge of programming languages, as well as proficiency in using CAD software preferred
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students and promote a positive team culture committed to gracious competition.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility in schedule to accommodate after school meetings and weekend competition
