Sixth Grade Community Garden Project
Visitation sixth graders have been hard at work planting a community garden as part of a Design for Change project. After learning about food deserts, they realized that there are people in our own communities that do not have access to healthy food. They wrote to local garden centers asking for donations, prepped the gardens for planting, and put seeds and seedlings in the ground.
This project is an extension of the Hunger Awareness project the sixth graders participated in earlier this spring. Learning to create positive social change is a key piece of a Visitation education, and we are proud of our sixth graders for the important service work they have done this year.
Here are a few photos from the Community Garden project.
