Upper School Faculty Updates

A message from the Director of Upper School, Dr. Anna Barter:

In light of Charlotte Cleveland’s retirement, we are happy to announce that we have hired alumna, Amy Clark, ‘83 as the full-time studio art teacher. Amy brings 18 years of classroom experience to Visitation, having taught at St. Peter Claver Catholic School and MacDonald Montessori. She also works as an artist in the Twin Cities and serves as a member and board member of Gallery 96 and AZ Gallery. Amy learned to love art under the guidance of Sister Jane de Chantal who Amy credits as being instrumental in fueling her passion and drive to create.

We are also excited to welcome Beth Kirvida Langhoff, ‘97 to the World Language Department. Beth studied Spanish at Visitation under the guidance of Francie Cutter-Sullivan before going on to major in the language and graduate summa cum laude at the University of Notre Dame. Beth completed a portion of her language studies in Spain and earned her MA in Education from Hamline University in 2006. With over 10 years of teaching experience, Beth will step into the Spanish Level II and III classrooms next year.

Kathleen West, ‘95, meanwhile, will segue from the eleventh to ninth grade English classroom while Elizabeth Arnstein will return from sabbatical this upcoming fall. Kathleen brings more than 20 years of teaching experience to the school and has just released her most recent novel, Home or Away. She earned her undergraduate degree at Macalester College and her graduate degree at the University of Minnesota. We are so pleased that she will continue to be an active part of the English Department at Visitation!

We are also thrilled that Sue Loeffler will return to our Math Department after serving as a long-term substitute teacher. Sue studied and received her undergraduate degree at the Catholic University of America. She brings extensive math teaching experience to Visitation, having taught in various capacities, most notably at Cretin-Derham Hall. Sue will continue to work with those students enrolled in Honors Math Analysis and will also be at the helm of Ninth Grade Algebra.

I am also happy to report that Lee Blum will return to the Upper School Counseling Staff after joining the staff this past spring. An employee of Phoenix School Counseling, Lee most recently worked for Melrose Center in Park Nicollet. A dedicated mental health practitioner, Lee brings fifteen years of experience to Visitation and has a proven ability to work with young women and help them to acquire the tools to ensure social-emotional well-being. The author of two books, Brave is the New Beautiful: Finding Courage to Be the Real You – a Book of the Decade finalist – and Table in the Darkness: A Healing Journey Through an Eating Disorder, Lee brings extensive expertise to the Counseling Office.
