Beginner Skiers & Lessons
This is not a learn-to-ski program. However, if your student is a beginner skier, we strongly recommend:
1) Beginning skiers should plan to attend with a friend with similar skiing ability. We do not want any student to ski alone.
2) Lessons for first-time skiers must be pre-arranged and prepaid individually through the Afton Alps website (not through Saint Thomas Academy Middle School).
Important Details:
All students participating in Ski Club must ride the bus to Afton. Students will ski from 4:00 p.m. to 7:50 p.m. The return bus will load at 8:00 p.m. and will be back at Visitation between 8:40 and 8:50 and at Flynn Hall between 8:50 and 9:00 p.m. All students must leave Afton on the bus unless otherwise communicated to Justin Sawyer or VIS chaperone before 3:00pm the day of the event. Students riding home with a parent must also be signed out by the parent.
Please be sure to pack plenty of warm clothes, snacks and/or money for meals. Chalets are open for use. We will have a table reserved for our use in our designated Chalet.
Equipment Details:
For Vis students bringing equipment to school on ski club days, the Heart entrance will be open Friday morning before school begins. Equipment will be stored in the Heart under the stairwell.
STA Students will board the bus at 3:15 p.m. at Flynn Hall. And then the bus will swing by the “Heart” entrance to Visitation to pick up the Visitation girls.
Extreme Weather:
In the event of extreme weather, students and parents will be notified if skiing is canceled. The general rule is 20 degrees below zero or colder at 3:00 p.m. (or 30 degrees below zero wind chill) or blizzard-like conditions which make travel unsafe.
Helmets:
All students participating in Vis/STA Ski and Snowboard Club are required to wear a helmet while skiing/snowboarding.
