Upper School Director's Notes

A message from Director of Upper School, Dr. Anna Barter:

Dear Upper School Families,

It is the season of Advent, and we are taking intentional moments to keep in mind the season and the importance of light in darkness. Our days are getting shorter, yet we are reminded to be the light for one another. Even if the gesture is small, it is worthwhile.

Today marks Progress Report #3, and I encourage you to touch base with your daughters to talk through their academic progress. Teachers will be making updates to the gradebook by Dec. 6 at 8 a.m., so this time is a good one to review PowerSchool and reach out to any teachers with questions or concerns, particularly as we approach the week of final exams. To review a detailed schedule of the final exam week, See details here.

Another highlight of this week is our continued implementation of the Social Institute, a learning platform that empowers students to navigate their social worlds in such a way that fuels their health, happiness and future success. This past Monday, we shared a lesson entitled “Find Your Influencers” during which time the girls will be learning how to evaluate news sources and information on social media feeds. For more information so as to continue the conversation at home, register your free account for the Parent Toolkit. We are excited to celebrate the Christmas season with all of you, particularly this upcoming weekend. Please join us for Vis the Season on Dec. 3, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. I also invite you to attend our Christmas Choral and Orchestra Performance on Dec. 4 at 4 p.m. The musicians have worked hard throughout the semester to share holiday music, and it’s sure to be a festive occasion.

Sincerely,

Anna Bachman Barter, PhD
Director of Upper School
