Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach Announcement
From Director of Competitive Activities Elisa Ryan Manney:
The Athletic Department is excited to announce the recent hiring of James O'Brien as Visitation's new Head Varsity Basketball Coach. The Visitation community is invited to a Meet the Coach get together in the Athletic Foyer on Thursday, June 7, from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Coach O'Brien played basketball at Canisius High School in Buffalo, NY where he was a team captain. He went on to play collegiate basketball overseas at the University of Granada in Granada, Spain while pursuing a degree in Spanish. Coach O'Brien started his coaching career by spending three years as a volunteer teacher and basketball coach at Mount Carmel High School in Belize, and has since accumulated more than 10 years of coaching experience at the grade school, high school and AAU levels. He has most recently served as Visitation's JV basketball coach for the past two seasons.
Coach O'Brien also enjoys downhill skiing, has a current 4.5 USTA Tennis rating and aspires to reach a single digit golf handicap, which he is admittedly not even close to. Most importantly, he is married to a strong, intelligent and beautiful woman, Janine Ersfeld, and is proud father of a Vis 8th grader, Grace, who is an accomplished student and swimmer.
Also joining the staff as the JV Basketball Coach is Jennifer Swartout, who has a vast Basketball background as both a student-athlete and coach, and who currently teaches at Faithful Shepherd. Coach Swartout looks forward to contributing to the Varsity staff as well.
