A message from our Visitation Sisters of North Minneapolis
Dear Friends and Generous Benefactors of Visitation in North Minneapolis,
We Visitation Sisters (fondly known around North Minneapolis as "The Nuns in the 'Hood") trust that you and your families and friends have had Happy Christmas and New Year celebrations. Thanks to each and every one of you! Our neighbors and their families have grown to treasure the holiday traditions you have helped us create over the years.
Your gifts have come in Cub boxes filled with groceries, household items, Cub, Walmart and Target cards, Christmas stockings, sweet treats, warm gloves, hats, socks, 30 families sponsored by Sponsor a Family MN, and on and on. I am writing this as a COMMUNITY letter, because TOGETHER we have brought God's embrace of love, peace and hope to hundreds of people. We Sisters get the 'kudos' and the heartfelt thank yous which are really for you.
It was brought home to me just how important basic essentials are when I answered the door this morning for a woman named Ebony. She asked for a $10 Cub card and two tokens, the monthly fare we share on a one time basis. I was able to pray with her "a few dreams" for 2019. I remembered we had a few grab bag gifts under the Christmas tree to be shared with folks who come, so I offered her one. She opened it, and found a package of paper napkins. With huge tears in her eyes, she said, "I can't use these; I don't have a home." We gave the grab bag another try, and this time she came up with a package of thank you notes. Her reply: "Thank you. I can use these for people who have been kind to me." She symbolized for me in that moment the gratitude so many bring to our door even as they struggle to meet daily need for their families.
The Word was made Flesh and dwelt among the people of North Minneapolis this Christmas 2018 through your goodness. May Jesus continue to live in your acts of kindness as we welcome 2019.
