Vis Senior Wins Science Award!
Senior Helaina Sislo was awarded the prestigious Graduate Women in Science award for her research presentation entitled The Evolution of the Human Microbiome. This award is part of the Minnesota State Science and Engineering Fair Awards for 2020.
Helaina first traveled to Costa Rica in the summer of 2018 with Visitation as part of the Seeds of Change program. There she learned to conduct field research and formally present the results. Working independently since 2019, Helaina returned for a second year program studying the growing field of bioinformatics.
Upon her return, and after presenting her research, she entered it in a regional science fair. Her project allowed her to proceed to the Minnesota State Science Fair where she presented her research remotely this past March. Her work received the Graduate Women in Science Award which is given to one female student in each grade.
